Get the results you want with minimally invasive surgery for women
Minimally invasive surgery for women has many benefits, including a faster recovery and a lower risk of complications. Most minimally invasive procedures are outpatient, allowing you to go home a few hours after the surgery. Our experienced San Antonio GYN Dr. Carlos Cardenas performs many of these procedures right in his office. After surgery, our highly trained staff will care for you until you’re ready to go home.
Dr. Cardenas performs laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery
Our San Antonio GYN performs laparoscopic surgery to diagnose and treat several conditions and problems.
- Abnormal bleeding
- Endometriosis
- Ovarian cysts
- Pelvic pain
- Tumors
- Uterine fibroids
During laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Cardenas makes several small abdominal incisions. He then places a tiny camera on the laparoscope instrument and inserts it into the incision to view the pelvic organs and abdominal cavity. He also attaches surgical instruments to the laparoscope to perform surgical procedures. Because the incisions for this procedure are so small, you won’t have to deal with large scars or a long recovery.
A hysterectomy today usually involves a three to four-week recovery time
In the past, having a hysterectomy required a large incision and a four to six-week recovery period. Minimally invasive surgery for women has changed all that. Now, most patients will only need three to four weeks to recover and can go home the same day.
Most of the hysterectomies that Dr. Cardenas performs are vaginal surgeries, performed through a small vaginal incision, leaving no visible scars.
Leading-edge techniques are available for pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence
Many women develop problems, such as pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and urinary incontinence, especially during perimenopause and menopause. When lifestyle modifications and medications don’t work, minimally invasive surgery helps women get back to everyday life. Surgery can relieve the annoying symptoms like urine leakage and problems emptying the bladder.
Minimally invasive surgery for women helps with diagnosis and treatment
Several types of minimally invasive procedures help Dr. Cardenas diagnose and treat gynecologic conditions.
- Hysteroscopy is a procedure that helps our San Antonio GYN diagnose and treat uterine conditions.
- Myomectomy is a type of surgery that can remove uterine fibroids and reconstruct the uterus.
- Endometrial ablation is a surgical procedure that can often help when heavy bleeding doesn’t respond to medication.
